Moneybird vs e-Boekhouden.nl: costs, ease of use and automation compared
Choosing between Moneybird and e-Boekhouden.nl? Compare package limits, starter terms, invoices and bank transactions using the same sample administration.
Moneybird and e-Boekhouden.nl use different package limits. As a result, the same administration can turn out differently in one package than in the other. Compare the current set-up, starter conditions and processing of invoices and bank transactions using one sample administration.
Start with the administration you want to keep
The choice between Moneybird and e-Boekhouden.nl only becomes concrete when you compare the same situation. How many bank transactions do you process? Do you need to create invoices? Who works with it? And do you want to link an external bank account automatically? A low entry rate says little if the function you need is in a different package.
We compare public product documentation here, consulted on 10 September 2026. We have not carried out a user test. That is why we give no scores for ease of use and do not name an overall winner. With the examples below you can decide for yourself which trial is worth doing. Also look at the other accounting software if your requirements fall outside these two packages.
The main differences on paper
| Decision point | Moneybird | e-Boekhouden.nl |
|---|---|---|
| Free start | 60 days to try; then a paid package | Starter offer of 15 months, depending on the conditions and start date of your business |
| Volume measure | Processed bank transactions per month, among other things | ZZP allows a maximum of 240 bookings per financial year; more extensive packages have no booking limit |
| Invoicing | From Start onwards unlimited sales invoices and incoming documents; Compact has separate limits | Included in ZZP and Standaard + Factureren; not in Standaard |
| Collaboration | User limit depends on the package; the Bookkeeper role does not count | Check the user roles you want in your chosen package |
Sources: Moneybird's explanation of packages, the price page of e-Boekhouden.nl and the starter conditions. Do not turn a difference in counting method into a direct price comparison: a bank transaction is not the same as every possible booking.
What do the current Moneybird packages mean?
The package names are Compact, Start, Groei and Compleet. The official package explanation lists Start with 20 bank transactions and one user, Groei with 50 transactions and five users, and Compleet with unlimited transactions and users. For an external bank integration you need Groei or Compleet. Compact is intended for a very small administration and has, among other things, a limit of one sales invoice per month.
The same source lists €18 for Start with monthly payment versus €15 per month with an annual subscription. For Groei that is €35 versus €29 and for Compleet €49 versus €41. These are the package amounts shown there; when ordering, check the final invoice, VAT and any additional services. A monthly amount with annual payment does not mean you can cancel freely every month.
Worked example using only the published Groei package amounts: twelve months at €35 is €420. One year at the monthly equivalent of €29 is €348. The difference is €72 before any additional services or tax treatment. Weigh that difference against the flexibility you need. A cheaper annual subscription does not help if you want to switch after two months.
How does the limit work at e-Boekhouden.nl?
The ZZP package limits the number of bookings on an annual basis. The supplier counts as bookings, for example, purchase invoices, sales invoices, cash and bank transactions and journal entries. So look beyond just your number of customers. The price structure also distinguishes between bookkeeping and bookkeeping with invoicing. The price page also shows temporary discount amounts alongside the regular rates. For your multi-year budget, use the rate after the promotion.
Fictional administration: four sales invoices, eight purchase invoices and eighteen separately booked bank transactions per month give thirty bookings in this simplified example. Over twelve comparable months that is 360 bookings. That is above 240. The example assumes that each action mentioned counts as one booking; check with your own import and way of working how the software actually counts.
Anyone who chooses the starter offer should make this calculation before the end of that offer. You can then compare in time whether the follow-on package is still suitable. An association that collects membership fees also has different requirements from a freelancer. Read our guide for associations and foundations for that.
Assess bank integration, recognition and Peppol separately
A bank integration retrieves transactions. Recognition reads data from a receipt or invoice. Reconciliation links a payment to an outstanding item. Those are different steps. During a trial, look at where you still have to check or add things, rather than lumping everything under the word automation.
Moneybird documents sending and receiving via Peppol. That can be important if customers or suppliers want to invoice that way. For e-Boekhouden.nl we have not confirmed that specific capability in the sources used. That is not proof that the function is missing: have the supplier demonstrate your required way of working. A received e-invoice is moreover not yet an approved or paid invoice.
Use the same five tasks in both trials
- Sales invoice and correction. Create a fictional invoice, change a draft and then process a credit note. Check what the customer sees and what stays in your administration.
- Purchase with an exception. Add a receipt with an unclear date. Can you see the source next to the booking suggestion and correct the date?
- Part-payment. Link a payment of €400 to a fictional invoice of €1.000. The outstanding amount should then be €600.
- Collaborating. Invite an adviser with appropriate rights. Check whether they can do what is needed without a shared main account.
- Taking your data with you. Download the documents and reports you need when switching. Assess them together with your bookkeeper.
For each task, note whether you could continue without help, which corrections were needed and which subscription the function required. That gives you a comparison of your own work rather than a general verdict on an interface.
Which one do you put on your shortlist?
Look at Moneybird if the documented Peppol route and the packages based on transactions, users and bank integrations fit your administration. Investigate e-Boekhouden.nl if the starter scheme is interesting or the split between bookkeeping and invoicing matches what you need. In both cases compare the appropriate follow-on package, the collaboration with your adviser and the outcome of the same trial tasks.
