Compare BI software
With business intelligence (BI) software you bring together data from different systems, such as your accounts, CRM, webshop and Excel files, and turn it into dashboards and reports. That way you see revenue, margins, stock or sales figures in one place, with the option to click through to the details.
BI or reports from your own package
Much business software has its own reports. BI software is useful if you want to combine data from several sources or build reports yourself. For financial reports from your accounts you can also look at reporting software.
What should you look out for?
- Integrations: check whether there are standard connectors for your accounting package, CRM and database. Without a connector you need an integration or a data warehouse.
- Who builds the reports: most packages distinguish between report creators and viewers. Work out how many licences of each type you need.
- Knowledge: you build simple dashboards yourself; complex data models require knowledge of data modelling or help from a partner.
