The main difference

Asana revolves around tasks and projects: you divide work, record dependencies and, in the higher plans, link projects to goals and portfolios. monday.com revolves around boards that you build yourself with columns, which means you can also use them for other processes, such as a sales pipeline or a schedule. Both charge per user and sell users in blocks: Asana for 2, 3, 4 or 5 users and then, up to 30 users, in steps of 5; monday.com for 3 users and then in steps of 5. A team of 4 pays for 4 users with Asana and for 5 with monday.com; a team of 6 pays for 10 with both.

Choose Asana if

  • you want to plan projects with many tasks, dependencies and deadlines tightly: timeline and Gantt views are already in Starter;
  • you want to link projects to goals and portfolios (Advanced);
  • you work with external parties: paid plans have an unlimited number of free guests. Starter costs €10,99 and Advanced €24,99 per user per month with annual billing (prices October 2026).

Choose monday.com if

  • you want one platform that teams set up themselves for projects, processes and schedules;
  • you watch the price per user: Basic costs €9, Standard €12 and Pro €19 per user per month with annual billing (prices October 2026);
  • you want to use automations and integrations: these are included from Standard, time tracking from Pro.

What to look out for with both

Both have a free plan for up to 2 users, meant for getting started. With monday.com, timeline and Gantt views only come with Standard, where a maximum of 250 automation actions per month applies; with Asana, goals, portfolios and time tracking only come with Advanced. With monday.com, annual billing is 18% cheaper than monthly billing. Calculate with the plan that has the features you really need, not with the cheapest one.
