Alternatives to Mailchimp: 6 email marketing packages compared

Mailchimp is free up to 250 contacts and then charges in dollars, at a price that rises with your list. Six alternatives, from Dutch newsletter software to packages for webshops, with their prices and how to take your contacts with you.

Why people look for an alternative to Mailchimp

Mailchimp is the best-known email marketing package. According to the pricing page (1 October 2026), it is free up to 250 contacts and 500 emails per month. Essentials starts at $13, Standard at $20 and Premium at $350 per month, and the price rises with the number of contacts. Mailchimp charges in dollars.

The reasons to look further are usually the price as your list grows, the small free limit, or a webshop that wants to do more with orders and abandoned baskets. For Shopify you need an app with Mailchimp. A Dutch package with support in Dutch and data in the Netherlands is another reason.

Which alternative suits you?

  • You mainly send newsletters and have fewer than 2.000 contacts: Laposta is then free, with a mention below your newsletter. For €210 a year it disappears.
  • You have a webshop: Klaviyo, Omnisend and Reloadify pull orders, viewed products and baskets from your platform. Also read email marketing for your webshop.
  • You want to automate more channels: ActiveCampaign sends automated sequences via email, text messages and WhatsApp and has more than 1.000 integrations.

Taking your contacts out of Mailchimp

  • According to the Mailchimp help page, you export a whole audience, a segment or a tag as CSV. You sometimes get a zip file with separate files for subscribed, unsubscribed, non-subscribed and cleaned contacts.
  • The export contains your fields, tags and permissions, but not opens, clicks and purchase history. Keep reports you need separately. An export stays available for 30 days; only owners and admins can export a whole audience.
  • Import unsubscribed contacts as unsubscribed, so you do not email them again in the new package. Rebuild automated emails: flows are not included in the export.
