What does accounting software cost, in short?

On 1 October 2026 we went through the pricing pages of ten accounting packages from our comparison. Together they show 25 paid plans you can do your bookkeeping with. They cost €3 to €95 per month. The middle plan costs €23 per month and 22 of the 25 plans cost between €9 and €45.

The cheapest plan is almost always limited: few invoices, few bank transactions or one user. What you really pay therefore depends mainly on your number of bookings, the number of users and whether you need the bank feed and invoicing. All amounts are per set of books per month and exclude VAT unless we say otherwise.

Prices of ten accounting packages side by side

We only include prices that the supplier publishes itself. Introductory discounts are shown separately, because you pay the normal rate after the offer period.

Moneybird, MoneyMonk and e-Boekhouden.nl do not say whether their prices include or exclude VAT. Prices excluding VAT are usual for business software, but check before you budget. Tellow's pricing page also shows a discount for annual billing; we give the monthly amount shown.

What the price of accounting software depends on

• Number of bookings or bank transactions: the cheap plans cap the number of transactions per month or per year. Count your bank transactions over the past three months before you choose a plan.
• Legal form: some plans are for sole traders only, such as Jortt ZZP. A private limited company (bv) or general partnership (vof) then needs the more expensive plan.
• Users and sets of books: if you work with a colleague or bookkeeper, or have a holding company and an operating company, extra users and sets of books count too.
• Bank feed and invoicing: most packages include them, but not all. Informer charges €1 per connected account per month, and e-Boekhouden.nl has a plan without an invoicing module.
• Automation: recognising receipts and invoices, automatic booking and direct debits are often in the more expensive plans.

Costs you easily forget

• End of the starter offer: e-Boekhouden.nl, MoneyMonk and Informer give starters months of discount or free use. Budget with the rate that applies afterwards. Also read what free accounting software really costs.
• Payroll: payslips almost always cost extra. With Jortt that is €9,50 per payslip per month. With ten employees that is already €95 per month, more than the accounting plan itself.
• Payment costs: iDEAL links and direct debits in your invoices cost per transaction. Moneybird, for example, charges €0,29 per iDEAL payment.
• Your accountant: the software does not always replace the accountant. Ask whether your accountant works with the package and whether that lowers the cost of the annual accounts.
• Switching: moving opening balances and open items takes time. Preferably do it at the start of a financial year.

Worked example: a company with 5 and with 50 employees

We work with two fictional companies with one set of books. The small company is a private limited company (bv) with five employees, two users in the accounts, one bank account and about eighty bank transactions per month. The larger company has fifty employees, five users in the accounts and well over a thousand transactions per month. We take the normal monthly prices from the table, without starter offers and without payroll.

In this example the small company pays €288 to €720 a year for software. Moneybird Groei (€29) is cheaper than Compleet, but has 50 processed transactions; with eighty transactions a month the example chooses Compleet. For the larger company the plan itself stays affordable: €288 to €1.140 a year. There, payroll, set-up and support from an accountant weigh more heavily. Price on request? How to compare quotes

For larger sets of books or packages that include an accountant, you sometimes get a quote instead of a price list. Then ask about:

• the number of users and sets of books included;
• limits on bookings, bank accounts and documents;
• the cost of the bank feed, scan and recognise, and e-invoices;
• the price after an offer period or after the first contract year;
• what moving your current accounts costs;
• whether you can export your data if you switch later.

Is there free accounting software?

Yes, but with limits. Tellow and Jortt have a free plan, and Jortt's does not include bookkeeping. Starter offers are temporary. Check in advance which limits apply and what the plan costs afterwards.

What does accounting software cost for a bv?

A private limited company (bv) cannot use a freelancer plan where that plan is for sole traders only. In our example with five employees, a suitable plan costs €24 to €60 per month, excluding payroll.
