Compare AI assistants

An AI assistant is an AI chatbot that you ask questions and give tasks to in plain language. It writes and improves texts, summarises documents, translates, searches the web and helps you analyse figures. Some also carry out tasks themselves, such as making a presentation. Freelancers often use such an AI chat as a personal AI assistant. Businesses mainly want employees to use AI safely, in an environment that the organisation manages itself.

A standalone assistant, built into your office software, or European?

ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Grok are AI assistants that you use on their own, in your browser or in an app. Microsoft 365 Copilot and Gemini also work in the office software from Microsoft and Google, such as Word, Outlook and Gmail.

If you are looking for a European supplier, look at Mistral Vibe, Lumo from Proton or the Dutch GreenPT. Langdock and TextCortex offer a business AI assistant as a platform: employees choose from AI models from different makers and the organisation connects its own knowledge. If you already work with Notion or ClickUp, those also include an assistant. Which AI assistant is best depends on what you use it for.

What should you look out for?

  • Your data: check whether the supplier uses your conversations to train AI, where the data is stored and whether you get a data processing agreement. Business plans often handle this differently from the free version.
  • Free or paid: many AI assistants have a free version with limits. If you are looking for a free AI assistant for the occasional question, that may be enough.
  • Administration for teams: you pay for a team plan per user, sometimes with a minimum number. Check whether user management and single sign-on are included.
  • Integrations and language: check whether the assistant works with the programs you use, such as Microsoft 365, Google Workspace or Slack. Chatting in Dutch is possible with most of them, but the screens are not always translated.
