Compare AI writing tools
With an AI writing tool, you have AI write, improve or rewrite text. You give a topic or a few keywords and get a first version of a blog post, email, product description or social media post. Or you paste in your own text and have spelling, grammar and style checked. Marketers and copywriters use an AI copywriter to produce texts faster. Other employees mainly want an AI writing aid that reads along with their emails and reports.
Writing text with AI or rewriting text with AI?
The first choice is what the tool needs to do for you. An AI text generator or AI copywriting tool such as Jasper, Rytr, neuroflash or Anyword creates new texts for marketing, often in your brand's style. If you mainly want to rewrite or proofread an existing text, you end up with an AI writing assistant such as Grammarly, Quillbot, Wordtune or LanguageTool.
A third group helps organisations write clearly, for example at language level B1. Textmetrics and Klinkende Taal are made for this. If you already use a package such as Notion or ClickUp, first look at what the AI in it can do.
What should you look out for?
- Dutch: not every tool supports Dutch text. Some, such as DeepL Write, are only available for English and a few other languages. Check which languages the tool writes and checks in.
- Limits: a free version usually has a limit, such as a number of words, characters or rewrites per day. Paid plans sometimes work with credits or a monthly maximum. If you only want to produce an AI text now and then, check whether that limit suits you.
- Where you write: check whether the tool works in the programs you use, such as Word, Outlook, Google Docs or your browser.
- Privacy: you sometimes paste confidential text into such a tool. Check whether the supplier stores your texts or uses them to train AI, and where the data is stored.
