Compare chatbot software

With chatbot software you have a chatbot answer questions from customers and website visitors, even outside office hours. You do not need to have an agency build a chatbot for you: with most packages you can make a chatbot yourself without programming. The bot answers frequently asked questions, looks up an order, schedules an appointment or records the details of a lead. If it cannot work something out, an employee takes over the conversation. Customer service teams, online shops and marketing teams in particular use it.

Chatbot for your website, WhatsApp or customer service?

The first choice is where the bot will live and what it has to do. If you are looking for an AI chatbot on your website that answers based on your own pages and documents, look at packages such as Watermelon and Chatbase. For a WhatsApp chatbot there are Wati and Landbot; Manychat also works on Instagram and TikTok. As a chatbot for customer service there are Fin and the AI agents from Zendesk. For large organisations there is a chatbot platform such as Kore.ai or Blits.ai. With Chatlayer and HALO from CM.com you can also make a bot for the telephone.

You can build a chatbot in two ways. With fixed conversation flows, the bot follows the path you draw. An AI agent formulates answers itself from your knowledge base. Many packages combine the two.

What should you look out for?

  • Channels: check whether the package works on the channels your customers use, such as your website, WhatsApp, Instagram, email or phone.
  • Pricing model: you usually pay for a number of conversations, messages or contacts per month. Estimate how many conversations you have and what extra conversations cost.
  • Handover: look at how the bot passes a conversation to an employee, and whether an inbox is included or an integration with your helpdesk.
  • Language and privacy: test whether the bot understands Dutch well. Also check where the conversations are stored and whether the supplier concludes a data processing agreement with you.
