Compare business telephony
Business telephony today almost always runs over the internet. This is called VoIP telephony. A cabinet full of cables in the office is no longer needed: the telephone exchange is in the cloud and you arrange everything in your browser. You choose a business number, decide who receives incoming calls and set up a menu, queue and opening hours. You make calls with a desk phone, an app on your laptop or your mobile. Cloud telephony is for the freelancer who wants to separate business and personal calls, and also for a customer service team with dozens of staff.
VoIP provider or standalone telephone exchange?
The first choice is who supplies what. With a VoIP provider such as Voys, Belfabriek, VOIPZeker or Callvoip you get numbers, call minutes and the online telephone exchange in one plan. This is also known as hosted telephony or hosted VoIP. A business telephone exchange such as Xelion, Enreach Contact or Dstny Business Communications is often bought through a partner, who also sets it up for you.
There are also international packages, such as 3CX, Aircall, RingEX and Zoom Phone. If you already work with Microsoft Teams, you can add a cloud telephone exchange to it with Microsoft Teams Phone.
What should you look out for?
- Pricing model: most VoIP providers charge an amount per user per month, some per package. Check whether call minutes, phone numbers and handsets are included or charged separately.
- Availability: check whether you can also answer your fixed number on your mobile and what happens if the internet goes down.
- Integrations: with an integration with your CRM or Microsoft Teams you see straight away who is calling. Check whether your software is among them.
- Contract and switching: pay attention to the term and the notice period, and ask whether you can take your current numbers with you.
